MEET THE CANDIDATE
Sarah Preu, Working Parent in KS District 3
Sarah is a 25 year technologist and passionate progressive who is stepping forward to lead the charge to primary our centrist rep in Washington. Working families and young adults deserve representation who champions real issues that affect our every day lives like: Medicare for all, abolishing ICE and its chokehold of fear in our communities, ending corporate monopolies that drive up housing costs, universal childcare that actually makes working families thrive and so much more.
Hey there!
You’re reading about the need to deliver real solutions for working folks in Kansas Third District. Let’s dive in.
THE INTERVIEW
Restoring the Voice of the Working Class with Sarah Preu
In this conversation, we sat down with Sarah Preu to discuss why she’s stepping up to challenge the status quo in Kansas’ Third District. As a technologist and a mother, Sarah shares her vision for a Kansas that prioritizes people over corporate PACs and why "centrism" is no longer enough for families struggling to stay afloat.
We asked her about the specific needs of KS-03, from the rising cost of housing in Johnson County to the need for a healthcare system that doesn't tie your well-being to your employer. Here’s what she had to say.
Why are you running to represent the Third District now?
"I’m running because I look at my daughter and I look at my grocery receipts, and I realize the math isn't adding up for most Kansans. For too long, we’ve been told that 'incremental change' is the best we can hope for. But when you’re facing a housing crisis and skyrocketing childcare costs, 'incremental' feels a lot like 'standing still.' I’m not a career politician; I’m a neighbor who believes our representative should fight for us as hard as we fight for our families."
"Working families don't need a middle ground; they need a floor that won't fall out from under them."
What does "Progressive Leadership" look like in a district like ours?
"It looks like honesty. It means admitting that Medicare for All isn't just a slogan—it’s a necessity for the thousands of gig workers and small business owners in Overland Park and Wyandotte. It means realizing that corporate monopolies are the ones driving up our housing costs. Progressive leadership in KS-03 is about building a coalition of urban and suburban voters who all want the same thing: a future where their kids can afford to thrive in the same town where they grew up."
How do you respond to those who say this district is too "moderate" for your platform?
"I think 'moderate' is a label consultants use, not a way people actually live. Is it 'moderate' to pay $2,000 a month for childcare? Is it 'moderate' to have our immigration system run by private contractors who profit off of fear? I don’t think so. I think Kansans are pragmatic. If you show them a plan that lowers their costs and protects their rights, they don't care about the labels. They care about results. We’re offering solutions, not just safe votes."
"True representation isn't about matching the status quo; it's about raising the bar for what we deserve."
